St Ann’s Warehouse

Design Exploration for a Theater in DUMBO,  NYC  2008

With development pressure causing the potential displacement of St. Ann's Warehouse from their current location, the studio took on the question:   How can the re-engagement with the historic Civil War era stores building and the East River edge provide an opportunity for the theater to maintain and transform their engagement with DUMBO?

Our approach developed two performances spaces that re-imaged the south end of the existing stores building.  One stage has a fly loft with the other an experimental 'black box' theater.  This allows the theater to expand into more set based productions while enhancing their ability to produce the experimental works they are known for.
